King’s Day: A Celebration of Orange
If there’s one day a year when the Dutch truly let loose, it’s King’s Day—a national party unlike anything else
The #1 question I’m asked about traveling to the Netherlands is where to stay in Amsterdam? Regardless of having one night, a few nights or a longer stay the best area to stay in Amsterdam is the Jordaan neighborhood. This area has the best bridges, canals and canal houses in the city. Many of the hotels are converted canal houses and offer canal views. Visitors get a taste of the best Amstedam has to offer in a small neighborhood, just steps from all the big attractions.
My second favorite area to stay is close to Central Station in Centrum. This area allows great access to public transportations of all kinds and has larger buildings with more accessibility options. If you are looking for budget accommodations, but don’t want to travel far, try Amsterdam Noord. Just a 5 minute, free ferry ride and you are at Central Station. Families often like to stay in Amsterdam Oost, because of its proximity to the Zoo and Nemo Science Center.
These are the best places to stay in Amsterdam, with options for budget, comfort and luxury accommodations. I have also included a few family-friendly options, since family and large family options are difficult to find. And I’ve included a few houseboat options, but I highly recommend these for warm weather trips.
